Overview[]
The Oogle originated through breeding to create a 'cute' pet. The result was the Oogle.
Biological Analysis[]
The Oogle are yellow and orange limbless pseudoslugs that move around by crawling around on their belly, in an inchworm-like manner. They have insect-like carnivourous mouths and three bony plates on the back that protect them from attacks (however not very well).

In captivity, they have been known to recognise a ball after two weeks of not seeing it. This memory allows them to do some forms of thought that may not be completely primal, however skeptics claim that this is just the Oogle's instinct and they are not consciously comparing the ball to ones from memory.

Oogles are also used for entertainment, as they can repeatedly do an action and still find it fun. This means that some Waterbe have set up complex 'stunt tracks' for Oogles, with jumps and other stunts for Oogles to do.
Ecological Analysis[]
They are unable to survive in the wild, instead they require constant care by Waterbien keepers. Despite there being many Oogles, the huge population of Waterbe means that only one in a hundred Waterbe own Oogles. Even then, Oogles are quite a popular pet with Oogle training projects going on all around Unistarch.
Sociological Analysis[]
It has been observed by the Waterbe that the Oogle have a developing (though much less advanced than the Waterbe's) caste system, with the social importance measured by the the size of the eyes. For example, ones with large eyes are worshipped. Also, if there are two large-eyed Oogles, then the nest will split into two different ones. This behaviour only occurs when they are in large groups, however this is often not the case as Oogles are kept separate by the Waterbe to minimise breeding. Even then, it is widely though to be instinct and not actual sentience.
